Cotswolds Walking Tours - Your Way!

Our Cotswolds walking tours allow you to journey on foot, at your own pace. Hike the stunning English countryside, exploring the Cotswolds or along our historic National Trails, including the iconic Cotswold Way. Enjoy the freedom of walking in England, from the Lavender Fields of Snowshill, the gardens of Hidcote and the honey coloured stone villages like Chipping Campden, and rest your legs in the best British Pubs and hand picked hotels every evening. With guided and self guided tours, you can choose to join a group of like minded walkers, explore on your own, as a couple or with a group of friends and enjoy the delights of England’s stunning heritage and landscape.

Private, Guided or Self-Guided Walking Tours

Guided tours grant an in depth experience of the Cotswolds. Our engaging local guides – the heartbeat of our tours – take care of everything, while sharing the secrets of the iconic palaces, castles, villages and ancient sites we see. With highlights including following our walk into Bath along the canal, or touring around Oxford’s famous buildings, colleges, cathedral and dreaming spires – there’s something interesting and unique around every corner.

Our self-guided walking tours take all the hassle out of walking by including all luggage transfers, booking all accommodation, providing maps, GPS instructions, and recommending incredible places to visit, and of course the best cafes and pubs along the way.

If you are looking for a private tour, we offer bespoke planning for you and your group to create the perfect trip.

Top things you need to know before visiting the Cotswolds

Where are the Cotswolds?

The Cotswolds stretch from Bath in the South to Stratford Upon Avon in the North, and across to Oxford in the East. It is known for its breath-taking natural beauty, its rolling hills and its historic towns and villages, built from the golden Cotswold stone.

How hilly are the Cotswolds?

The Cotswolds are a range of hills, with its name stemming from ‘Cote’ meaning sheep enclosure and ‘wold’ meaning hills. There are therefore lots of hills and incredible views from the top! However, you will able to miss out some of the steeper inclines – or add in some hillier walk for those looking to stretch their legs. There are routes for everyone and with our routes your guide will tailor your tour to your preferences.

What is the best way to get out of London into the Countryside?

On many of our guided trips we will pick you up from London ourselves to make your journey hassle-free! On other tours the best way out of London and into the Cotswolds is by train, from London Paddington, directly into Oxford, Moreton-in-Marsh or Bath. Our trips begin from these locations so you can arrive relaxed, refreshed and ready to start your tour.

Can I do a walking tour as a solo traveller?

All our trips are open for single travellers to join. You will have a great time on our walking tours whether travelling on your own, as a couple, family or group, meeting like-minded people on our guided trips, or choosing your own adventure on our self-guided tours. “As a single female, I would not hesitate to go on another Active England trip as a solo traveller”. S.G.

Where is The Ridgeway?

The Ridgeway is in Southern  England, starting in Hertfordshire, stretching down following the Chilterns AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and the North Wessex Downs AONB in Wiltshire. You can walk the trail in either direction, though on our tours we start at the Ivinghoe Beacon, finishing at Avebury. It is a prehistoric trackway tracing the chalk escarpment across the countryside.
