Fall will be worth the wait! When all around you the landscape changes, the trees begin to turn amber, orange yellow and red. Leaves cover the ground, mists rise from the valleys and often the days are crisp with a bright blue sky. Escape to where the air is clean and smells are earthy and of nature, with the promise of a mug of hot chocolate or a well earned pint awaiting you after your walk. Bangers and mash, toad in the hole, apple pie and custard and proper pub food; they all taste better after a long walk through the countryside.

Top things you need to know before visiting the Cotswolds

Is England nice in the Fall?

Fall, or Autumn, arrives from September until late November and is a wonderful season for walking, temperatures are mild and cool, there is not burning heat in the middle of the day, and all around you as you walk the landscape changes. The trees begin to turn amber, orange yellow and red. Leaves cover the ground, mists rise from the valleys and often the days are crisp with a bright blue sky. Check out our blogs on The Best Autumn Tours and Walks for some outdoor inspiration.

What is the best way to get out of London into the Countryside?

The best way out of London and into the Cotswolds is by train, out of London Paddington, and directly to Moreton-in-Marsh. All of our Autumn trips begin from these here so you can arrive relaxed, refreshed and ready to start your tour.

Can I do this tour as a solo traveller?

All our trips are open for single travellers to join. With full emergency support from our team and full GPS instructions, equipment, maps and more you will have a great time on our self-guided cycle tours whether travelling on your own, as a couple, family or group. “As a single female, I would not hesitate to go on another Active England trip as a solo traveller”. S.G.

How hilly are the Cotswolds?

The Cotswolds are a range of hills, with its name stemming from ‘Cote’ meaning sheep enclosure and ‘wold’ meaning hills. There are therefore lots of hills and incredible views from the top! However, you will able to miss out some of the steeper inclines – or add in some trickier hills for those looking to stretch their legs. There are walking and cycling routes for everyone and we can tailor your tour to your preferences.
