      Cotswolds Guided Walking Itinerary

Day 1Golden Stoned Chipping Campden, The Eccentric Hidcote Gardens

Our guides will meet you in Moreton-in-Marsh, one of the principal market towns in northern Cotswolds, and easily accessible via a direct 90 minute train journey from London Paddington.  After a quick lunch, we’ll head off for an introductory walk into the Cotswolds. We walk from the wonderful Chipping Campden, and onto Hidcote Gardens (a majestic, American inspired garden, set out in a series of outdoor rooms) and then walk to the Ebrington Arms (recently named by the Sunday Times as the best pub in England), before returning to Moreton-in-Marsh for our first dinner together as a group.

      Mileage: 4-6 miles

      Day 2Broadway Tower, Broadway Village

We head out again from Chipping Campden, joining the Cotswolds Way (a 102 mile route which heads all the way to Bath) past Dovers Hill, home to the quirky Cotswold Olympiks, towards Broadway Tower. Guests can walk up the tower with views over 16 counties of England and Wales with the landscape laid out like a patchwork quilt before you. After lunch at Broadway Tower we walk down to Broadway itself, known as the Jewel of the Cotswolds, for afternoon tea at the Broadway Deli and a good look around the stunning high street shops. We return to Moreton in Marsh for the evening.

      Mileage: 4-6 miles

Day 3Blenheim Palace - 2000 acre estate with grounds inspired by Capability Brown

We transfer by train from Moreton in Marsh through the beautiful Cotswolds to Blenheim Palace, a World Heritage site and the birthplace of Winston Churchill. First we visit Winston Churchill’s grave in the village of Bladon before walking into the Palace grounds designed by the renowned garden landscaper, Capability Brown. We tour the Palace itself and walk around the formal Italian Gardens and the Rose Garden. After lunch we walk to the Column of Victory, built to celebrate the victory over the French at the Battle of Blenheim, before returning via train to Moreton in Marsh.

      Mileage: 5-10 miles

      Day 4Stow-on-the-Wold and The Slaughters

We travel from Moreton in Marsh to Stow on the Wold, the highest town in the Cotswolds, with a magnificent market square and the site of a famous battle in the English Civil War. We then walk down towards the Slaughters (two villages called Upper and Lower Slaughter) probably the most photogenic villages in the whole region and onto lunch at Bourton on the Water often referred to as the Venice of the Cotswolds. After lunch we head to Burford and our next hotel in one of the prettiest Cotswold towns there is, renowned for its bustling high street and atmosphere.

      Mileage: 5-8 miles

Day 5Burford and Bampton - Downton Abbey inspired

We travel from Burford, and walk from the village of Barnsley down the Coln Valley to the little village of Bibury, so pretty that Henry Ford wanted to transfer it (in its entirety) back to the USA! We lunch at a trout farm and then head to Bampton for Downton Abbey fans (it’s the village where all the outdoor filming is done), before arriving back in Burford for our last night dinner together.

      Mileage: 6-8 miles

Day 6 Farewells and ongoing travel

Our tour ends after breakfast, where we help guests with their ongoing travel arrangements, most often from Charlbury train station, a short transfer from the hotel.
