Journey along the River Wye, one of England and Wales’ most beautiful rivers; one journey; many modes of transport – maximum fun and enjoyment! Travel with like-minded people and by whatever means possible, choosing from a range of different activities on a daily basis including, walking, cycling, swimming, SUP’ing, Canoeing and Kayaking. In your own time and at your own pace. Relax in the evening in the best local pubs and around the firepit for a week of adventure that will live with you for a lifetime.
It’s your tour, so pick the modes of transport that suit you best and travel at your pace. Our days are full and active and our evenings relaxed and informal in great pubs or restaurants or around the campfire. Feel the accomplishment of completing the journey, but don’t feel obliged to do all of these activities, if you fancy an afternoon off to stroll along the river or read your book in the sun – that’s just fine with us!
If you would like additional activities our guides will be only to happy to add in additional early morning swims or evening bike rides or walks along the valley. It’s your adventure, always!
Easy train journeys from London, Bristol or the Midlands, take you to the start of your trip in Gloucester, or you can drive and leave your car at the start and we’ll transfer you back afterwards. It’s a journey you’ll never forget, so just bring yourself, some active wear and a sense of adventure and we’ll cover everything else.
Led by our outstanding guides, and using all our equipment, we know every bend in the river, access point, every cafe stop, local pub or brewery to suit all tastes! You’ll not need to worry about any of your luggage transfers, bookings or equipment as it will all have been taken care of for you and our support vehicle will always be on hand if you need a change of clothes or a rest!
Arriving at Gloucester, at the railway station, we’ll pick you up and transport you all the way up to the top of the Wye Valley, taking a last minute detour to the Elan Valley – a hidden gem if ever there was one! We check in to our accommodation and jump on the bikes for an introductory ride through this wonderful valley in the afternoon. There may even be time for a kayak in the late afternoon. We then get to know each other over dinner and the promise of many adventures ahead!
We transfer far up into the Welsh Mountains and hunt for the source of the Wye – which is only a mile from the source of the River Severn. It’s a bit of a hike and there is no compulsion to go all the way to the source itself. We then jump on the bikes and start down the Wye river – remember it’s downhill all the way – with a few minor hills to negotiate. We stay again in the Elan Valley with dinner in one of the wonderful local pubs.
From the Elan Valley we bike again down the Wye Valley, taking in some of the wonderful sites on route and finish the day by SUP’ing down the river to our accommodation in the village of Glasbury. We head into Hay on Wye in the evening for dinner in one of the renowned pubs in the centre of this famous literary town.
We head, down the river from Glasbury, past Hay on Wye for our first full day on the river. There is a choice of craft, from SUP / Canoe or Kayak and we travel for as long as guests like – which will slightly depend on the flow and guest appetite for speed. We picnic on the banks of the river for lunch and return to Glasbury in the evening for a night on your own.
The start point of the day will depend on how far we travel the day before! It’s a day for the bike and we travel towards Hereford, where we stop for lunch (and have a look at the Cathedral) before heading down alongside the river again to Ross on Wye and the end of the day’s ride. If anybody wants to head out on the river then that’s just fine!
An iconic day on the river with up to 20 miles to cover (but you really don’t have to do it all!). We pass the iconic Symonds Yat – keep an eye out for the peregrine falcons which patrol its cliffs – and past the historic Goodrich Castle before finishing the day in the wonderful Welsh border town of Monmouth. We transfer back to Ross on Wye, so we don’t need to change accommodation.
After breakfast we transfer to Monmouth for our celebratory ride to Chepstow and the end of our journey. It’s 16 miles, with a few little hills thrown in to keep us honest! At Chepstow we celebrate our achievement and transport port guests back to their cars or the railway station for your on-going travel.
