Your Itinerary
Settle into life in England with our pre-trip extension in Oxford, the “city of dreaming spires.” Saunter around the university colleges, explore the botanical gardens or take a sip of Old Rosie at the Turf Tavern, one of Oxford’s oldest pubs. If you have time after all this, take to the water on a punt (a flat-bottomed wooden boat) and travel the short distance from Magdalen Bridge along Christ Church Meadows.
Accommodation for pre-night – Voco Spires, Oxford
One of our Active England guides will meet you at Oxford Railway Station at 10:00 AM to begin a gentle riverside walk along the Thames, leading into one of the world’s most prestigious university cities. Explore the iconic Oxford colleges, the historic Bodleian Library, and the stunning Radcliffe Square. In the afternoon, experience the timeless charm of punting on the River Cherwell, gliding past Christ Church Meadows in a traditional wooden boat. This evening you will be staying at the Voco Spires, which is located a short walk away from the heart of the city. We’ll have dinner together as a group, in advance of a wonderful week!

This morning, step into history at Blenheim Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We explore the awe-inspiring grounds, the formal Italian Gardens, and the exquisite Rose Garden, before touring the magnificent palace interiors. We’ll also have time to visit Winston Churchill’s grave in nearby Bladon. In the afternoon, indulge in farm-to-table delights at Daylesford Organic Farm. Browse the local organic produce in the farm shop, and stroll through the idyllic countryside surroundings. This evening you will be heading to Moreton-in-Marsh. Enjoy a night at your leisure. Our guides will be on hand to offer recommendations for a wonderful dinner or a local beer.

Accommodation for night 2 – Manor House Hotel, Moreton-in-Marsh
Start your day in the picturesque market town of Chipping Campden, then take a scenic walk to the stunning Hidcote Gardens, famed for its enchanting series of intimate outdoor “rooms.” Continue to Broadway, the ‘Jewel of the Cotswolds,’ where you can explore its charming high street and browse its delightful antique shops. Enjoy a delicious lunch at The Deli, known for its selection of local and continental specialties, as well as fresh homemade treats. After lunch, head to Broadway Tower, where breathtaking panoramic views stretch across 16 counties. In the afternoon, step back in time at Sudeley Castle, a magnificent 1,000-year-old Tudor estate and the final resting place of Katherine Parr, Henry VIII’s last wife. Wander through its lavish interiors and spectacular gardens before returning to Moreton-in-Marsh for a relaxing evening.

Immerse yourself in ancient history at Chedworth Roman Villa, where elevated walkways reveal some of Britain’s most spectacular Roman mosaics, bathhouses, and hypocaust systems.
In the afternoon, escape into nature at Westonbirt Arboretum, the National Arboretum of the U.K and home to 2,500 species of trees from around the world. If there are tickets available, you may also have the option to visit Highgrove Gardens, the private residence of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, featuring an enchanting mix of formal gardens and wildflower meadows. (tickets not included, and availability not guaranteed, as dependent on the King’s schedule!). This evening you will be staying in Tetbury. Dine at the hotel’s fabulous restaurant for a delicious seasonal menu using locally sourced ingredients before resting up for the evening.

This morning a transfer takes us to Chippenham, where we board an 11-minute train to Bath, a city famed for its natural hot springs, Roman Baths, and elegant Georgian architecture. Stroll through history, from the Royal Crescent to Pulteney Bridge, and immerse yourself in the literary world of Jane Austen. On our return to Chippenham, time permitting, we’ll explore the picturesque village of Lacock, home to the historic Lacock Abbey and the Fox Talbot Museum, celebrating the birthplace of photography. We return to Tetbury in time for dinner. Enjoy a celebratory, farewell meal with the group on your final evening.

How hilly are the Cotswolds?
The Cotswolds are a range of hills, with its name stemming from ‘Cote’ meaning sheep enclosure and ‘wold’ meaning hills. There are therefore lots of hills and incredible views from the top! However, you will able to miss out some of the steeper inclines – or add in some hillier walk for those looking to stretch their legs. There are routes for everyone and with our routes your guide will tailor your tour to your preferences.
