Bakery on the Water Scoops Best Coffee Shop Award

At Active England Tours we take our mid-morning coffee stops very seriously and 2017 has been no exception. Our guests, typically from North America, are often coffee nuts and whilst coffee is important, we delight in help guests discover English tea and more importantly the delights of the mid-morning cake. After 10-15 miles on the bike, cake is a necessity and always part of our daily programme.

Our winner this year is the wonderful Bakery on the Water, in Bourton on the Water. The list of their cakes is something to behold, as is the smell of baked bread as you walk in the door. With wonderful hospitality and set in the beautiful Bourton on the Water, it really is a visit not to missed.

Also in the top 5 are:

Aston Pottery, Aston Nr Bampton

Aston Pottery has been serving cyclists for more than 10 years and with stunning gardens, lots of space for bikes and a café serving the best and biggest sausage rolls we know.

The café at Coln St Aldwyns

This café also makes the list, mostly for the charm of its garden in the heart of the village and the friendly volunteers in this community-owned enterprise

Café de la Post, Chadlington

Our mid-morning stop on the way to Blenheim Palace is perfectly located in the middle of the village and you can’t beat the two tiered tea cups!

Hidcote Gardens café

Set in the middle of Lawrence Johnston’s idyllic masterpiece the café is a mecca for adventurous cyclists in its elevated position on the top of the Cotswolds escarpment.

Active England Tours depart every week from a London pick-up and visit all of the following places, Windsor, Stratford, Oxford, Bath, Stonehenge, Blenheim Palace, Highclere Castle and the Kennet and Avon Canal in a week of relaxed cycling or walking mostly through the stunning backdrop of the Cotswolds.
