      Cotswolds Self-Guided Cycling Itinerary

      Day 1Blenheim Palace and Moreton-in-Marsh

We collect you at 10.00am at Oxford Station where we fit you up with your bikes and give you a full briefing. On the way out to the Cotswolds there is the opportunity to visit Blenheim Palace, home to Winston Churchill and a World Heritage Site before you head into the heart of the Cotswolds with its stunning, picture postcard villages and wonderful pubs! In the afternoon you’ll head to Moreton in Marsh where you’ll stay for the next 3 nights.

      Mileage: 32 miles

Day 2Golden Stoned Chipping Campden, The Eccentric Hidcote Gardens

Heading out from the hotel you’ll first visit the stunning gardens (or you can ride right on by!) at Hidcote, known for their American inspired series of garden rooms before heading off the Cotswolds Escarpment and down into Stratford via a disused railway line. Visit the church where Shakespeare was buried and the house where he was born before returning to Moreton in Marsh via the Ebrington Arms – recently voted the best pub in England!

      Mileage: 20-40 miles

Day 3Broadway Tower, Cotswolds Villages, The Slaughters’ Mill

You’ll wind our way through the majestic countryside of the Cotswolds, stopping at Broadway Tower for coffee, with its quirky tower and views over 16 counties of England and Wales. The biking is simply stunning today and you’ll also have the opportunity to visit some of the most well-known towns and villages including Chipping Campden and the Slaughters before returning to Moreton in Marsh in the evening.

      Mileage: 20-35 miles

Day 4Daylesford and Bourton on the Water

You travel from Moreton in Marsh to Daylesford for coffee (one of the most upmarket farm shops you will ever see!) before having lunch in the Venice of the Cotswolds at Bourton on the Water. After lunch, head to Burford and your next hotel in one of the prettiest Cotswold towns there is, renowned for its bustling High Street and atmosphere.

      Mileage: 25 miles

      Day 5Burford, Bibury and Bampton

You’ll bike from Burford, towards Bibury, a village so pretty that Henry Ford wanted to transfer it (in its entirety) back to the USA! Lunch at a trout farm and then head to Bampton for Downton Abbey fans (it’s the village where all the outdoor filming is done), before arriving back in Burford for your final evening.

      Mileage: 20-30 miles

Day 6Farewells and help with ongoing travel

Your tour ends after breakfast, when we can help you with your ongoing travel arrangements, most often from Charlbury train station, a short transfer from the hotel.

How do I get to the Cotswolds from near London?

Taking the train from London, Bristol or the Midlands is an easy 60-90 minute direct journey into the Cotswolds and to the start of our walking tours. This tour begins from Moreton-in-Marsh, a direct 1.5 hour journey from London into the heart of the North Cotswolds, where we meet you off the train and get you straight into the countryside to begin your wonderful week of cycling.

Are the roads safe to cycle on in the Cotswolds?

Our cycling routes are carefully chosen to ensure we bike on the quietest country lanes, with the best views of the Cotswolds! Drivers in the Cotswolds are very polite and guests have always felt safe and secure when riding our routes, check out our Trip Advisor Reviews from guests who have cycled with us: “I was concerned about riding in traffic, but for the most part there were not that many cars. The people are very watchful and careful, they wait and allow cyclist to go ahead. The Cotswolds and very beautiful, rural and unspoiled. I loved the small towns and the beautiful countryside. I would absolutely do it again with Active England. Loved it all.”  E.C.
