This tour encompasses the whole of the Cotswolds as well as visiting some incredible iconic landmarks, walking right up to the front steps of spectacular and historic English locations, starting in Oxford and travelling to the World Heritage Sites of Churchill’s Blenheim Palace, Stonehenge and the spa town of Bath
Our 6-day, 5-night tour will lead you through honey-coloured Cotswold villages and busy little market towns, over rolling hills and down country lanes. The Cotswolds is perfect walking country, taking the quietest roads, paths and bridleways you will feel transported back into England as it was before mechanisation, where sheep and dry-stone walling were the biggest industries.
Join one of our small group departures or travel privately. The routes are designed for all levels of walkers with longer and shorter hikes available each day and a unique way of literally walking into some of the most iconic places England has to offer – we call it “walk-in walking”. We collect you at 8.30am from London Paddington railway station, platform 1 (below the clock) and take you by minibus directly to the outskirts of Oxford, where we walk along the River Thames and right into the heart of one of the most beautiful University cities in the world. We have a tour of the University and lunch in this most vibrant of cities. After lunch we head deep into the Cotswolds to our hotel Moreton in Marsh and have our first dinner together as a group.

A day dedicated to the Cotswolds. In the morning we walk from Chipping Campden through the fields to the stunning gardens at Hidcote, renowned for its series of ‘outdoor rooms’. We visit Broadway Tower overlooking the northernmost extreme of the Cotswolds from where you can see 16 counties, before walking into Broadway town itself, one of the prettiest villages the Cotswolds has to offer.

We transfer by train from Moreton in Marsh through the beautiful Cotswolds to Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill and a World Heritage Site. First we visit Winston Churchill’s grave in the village of Bladon before walking into the Palace grounds designed by the renowned garden landscaper, Capability Brown. We tour the Palace itself and walk around the formal Italian Gardens and the Rose Garden. After lunch we walk to the Column of Victory, built to celebrate the victory over the French at the Battle of Blenheim, before returning to Burford.

We travel from Moreton in Marsh, stopping in Bampton for Downton Abbey fans (it’s the village where all the outdoor filming is done), towards the stunning White Horse Hill to see the beautiful ancient carving atop the Ridgeway and also Wayland Smithy, a beautifully preserved Neolithic burial chamber. We then walk to lunch in the White Horse pub in Woolstone. After lunch we travel on to Stonehenge to complete our Neolithic Day. We then head to our hotel in Tetbury, near Highgrove the private residence of Their Majesties The King Charles III and The Queen Consort,
Mileage: 4-6 miles
In the morning we transfer down to Bath, via a 2000 year old Roman Road and into the city via the Kennet and Avon canal. In the afternoon we visit the incredible Roman Baths and take a tour up to the Georgian inspired Royal Crescent overlooking the city. We then head back to the hotel for our last night and dinner together.

After a leisurely breakfast we help all guests with their ongoing travel arrangements. Regular direct trains depart from Bath or Kemble station into London and other mainline stations.

This tour is rated 2/5 for difficulty meaning it’s appropriate for guests going for a good walk and can handle an incline or two. The terrain we cover is varied. We’ll enjoy some rolling hills, and a few steeper walks which will be a bit more demanding. Your holiday, however, will be tailored by your guide to suit your individual preferences and rewarding views are guaranteed! Daily distances range from 4-10 miles.
