BATH
WHERE ROME REMAINS
The clue is in the name: Bath is most famous for its hot baths, which have been attracting visitors for nearly two millennia. What we know as the Roman Baths are actually an amalgam of designs from throughout the centuries. Although founded by the Romans, subsequent development and extensions mean the original part of the bath is now below street level, including the Bath House, Temple and Sacred Spring. This thermal spa has been relaxing and rejuvenating tourists ever since.

THE GENIUS OF THE GEORGIANS
When visiting Bath you cannot help but be impressed by its awe-inspiring Georgian architecture, with much of the city built during the reigns of the ‘Georgian’ Kings 200 years ago. During the 18th century, Bath became popular with the landed gentry, leading to architect John Wood designing the striking curved terraced houses that have become synonymous with the city. The most famous of these is the Royal Crescent and the Circus. Their classic design has withstood the test of time and added to Bath’s rich heritage and cultural splendour.

The complete henge consists of 82 enormous Bluestones, although today some now consist of barely visible stumps.
The greatest mystery of all is its purpose. From astronomy to human sacrifice, no single theory has yet gained universal acceptance.
