Return to nature, escape the crowds for a long weekend cycling in the Cotswolds. Immerse yourself in the history and heritage of the English countryside by cycling on your own, as a couple or bringing your group of friends with you for a weekend on two wheels.
The Cotswolds is perfect biking country, taking the quietest roads you will feel transported back into England as it was before mechanisation, where sheep and dry-stone walling were the biggest industries. Relax and enjoy the ride from palaces to hand-picked country pubs.
We take all the hassle out of cycling by including all luggage transfers, booking and organising all accommodation, maps, Ride With GPS instructions, and recommending incredible iconic palaces, castles, estates, ancient sites and more to visit along the way.
We collect you at 9am from Moreton in Marsh train station, a direct 90 minute journey from London Paddington, and after a meet and greet to orient you to your area and set you up to your bikes, you can cycle walk straight out into the majestic countryside of the Cotswolds, taking in some of the most well-known towns and villages including Chipping Campden and Broadway Tower – a great spot for lunch overlooking 13 counties and, on a clear day, with views all the way to Wales. We also visit the stunning Hidcote Gardens, renowned internationally for its series of outdoor rooms, returning to Moreton in Marsh in the evening.

The ride continues to our hotel in Burford in the evening.

From Burford you cycle along a beautifully flat path towards Bampton, winding alongside fields before arriving into the village where the outdoor and village scenes in Downton Abbey were filmed, including St Mary’s Church – renamed St Michael and All Angels in the hit tv show. From here, cycle on to lunch at the quirky Aston Pottery where we will pick you up and transfer you in the early afternoon into Oxford. Our cycling routes are carefully chosen to ensure we bike on the quietest country lanes, with the best views of the Cotswolds! Drivers in the Cotswolds are very polite and guests have always felt safe and secure when riding our routes, check out our Trip Advisor Reviews from guests who have cycled with us: “I was concerned about riding in traffic, but for the most part there were not that many cars. The people are very watchful and careful, they wait and allow cyclist to go ahead. The Cotswolds and very beautiful, rural and unspoiled. I loved the small towns and the beautiful countryside. I would absolutely do it again with Active England. Loved it all.” E.C.
